Broken teeth don’t heal, but we can make them look like they were never injured in the first place with a well-placed restoration. Dr. Luke and Dr. Kingsberg work closely with patients who have decayed or broken teeth, rebuilding their smiles with tooth-colored fillings and metal-free crowns that provide strength and protection to the tooth while also making it look natural again. Fillings made out of composite resin have many advantages over the traditional metal amalgam that you may remember. While a metal filling will always stick out, composite resin can be carefully matched to the natural color of your tooth, making the repair practically invisible. The material is also very flexible and bonds with the enamel itself, allowing us to place smaller, more conservative fillings that support the natural structure without weakening it or having to make undercuts.
For extensively damaged or incomplete teeth, you might need a crown instead of a filling. Crowns are recommended when a tooth has been seriously injured or weakened, or if there is a large cavity and/or filling that requires extra protection or support. While crowns can still be made out of metal, we prefer porcelain due to how it can easily be shaded to match the rest of your natural teeth without giving up a significant amount of strength and durability.
