Why Choose Riviera Family Dentistry of Denver for Invisalign?

How Invisalign Works

Each aligner is made of smooth, clear plastic. The material is extremely hard to see once it has been placed on the teeth, and it’s more comfortable than the brackets and wires that often end up poking the inside of your mouth. You can take the aligners out of your mouth anytime so that you can eat whatever you want and brush your teeth normally; however, you’ll have to keep them in your mouth for at least 20 to 22 hours each day to keep the treatment on track. By working through a series of these custom trays, you’ll gradually shift your teeth into their ideal positions for a straighter smile.

Indications for Invisalign

Although more complex orthodontic issues might still be treated best with traditional metal braces, Invisalign is a reliable alternative for patients who are struggling with some of the following moderate cases:

Crowded Teeth

If you’re pearly whites are overlapping or too close together, they can create small crevices that may allow debris and food particles to accumulate. This will significantly raise your risk of oral health problems, specifically cavities between your teeth and gingivitis. With Invisalign aligners, you can straighten them out for a more uniform smile.

Gaps Between Teeth

One or several spaces between your teeth can end up putting your enamel at risk of getting damaged. Your teeth can start to wear down, chip, or even crack. Invisalign aligners can effectively eliminate these gaps to help better the appearance and well-being of your teeth.

Factors That Affect the Cost of Invisalign

The price of Invisalign is influenced by several factors, including:

  • The severity of your orthodontic issues
  • The number of aligners in your treatment plan
  • If rubber bands and other orthodontic accessories are needed
  • The type of retainer you choose

Of course, the price will be influenced by other factors as well, including how closely you stick to your wear time. Rest assured, we will review all of this information with you in-depth at your appointment so you aren’t left in the dark.

Invisalign vs. Mail-In Aligners: Which Costs More?

Have you seen commercials for mail-in aligners? These work by having you take DIY impressions, which are often inaccurate. Plus, there isn’t an initial consultation and the treatment process often isn’t overseen by a licensed dental professional. As a result, these orthodontic alternatives are usually cheaper. As you may have guessed, that doesn’t mean they are better. In fact, it’s not worth it even at a lower price point since previous patients have experienced serious problems, like worsened misalignment.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Invisalign?

Invisalign FAQs

Does Invisalign Hurt?

Invisalign is one of the most comfortable clear aligner systems available. The clear aligners are custom-made to fit over your teeth, snugly hugging your smile. Putting them on, taking them off, and regular wear shouldn’t cause discomfort. However, most patients do experience sensitivity and achiness after starting the treatment or switching to a new set of aligners. This is normal and means that your teeth are slowly shifting as desired.

We recommend eating soft and room-temperature foods for the first few days of your treatment and during adjustment periods to keep this discomfort to a minimum. You can also use over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen to lessen the ache.

How Long Does Invisalign Take?

Every patient’s Invisalign experience is different so your treatment time will be different from another patient’s based on various factors. The severity of your misalignments, your commitment to oral hygiene, and your dedication to the treatment plan all play a huge role in determining how long you’ll be wearing your aligners.

Most patients take an average of 12 to 18 months to complete the treatment, but if you only need minor adjustments, it could take as little as 6 months from start to finish. To ensure a smooth and swift experience, try your best to follow all of Dr. Vernon’s instructions and attend regular check-ins.

What Happens After Invisalign?

Your Invisalign treatment will eventually end, and afterward, you’ll need to switch to maintenance on your newly aligned smile. First, you’ll need to verify the results with Dr. Vernon to make sure no refinements or adjustments are needed. Next, you’ll receive a retainer that will be a critical component in making sure your results last a lifetime.

Based on your needs, Dr. Vernon will tell you when and how often you’ll need to wear your retainer to ensure your teeth don’t start slipping back into their original positions. Along with retainer wear, you’ll need to continue regular oral hygiene to keep your teeth clean and healthy. Oral issues that can weaken your jawbone like gum disease could cause your teeth to shift out of alignment again!

Can Invisalign Fix an Overbite?

A little overbite is normal; however, severe overbite can cause more rapid tooth wear and lead to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain and other issues. In the past, Invisalign could only correct minor jaw alignment problems. However, with the advancement of Invisalign technology including buttons, elastics, and attachments, our team can correct mild to moderate overbite and other bite alignment issues.

That being said, the only way to know for sure if your overbite can be corrected is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Vernon. He can inspect your mouth, take X-rays, and recommend the best way forward for your needs.
